While people are waiting for Samsung to come up with its next phone in the Galaxy series, the Galaxy SIV, which is expected to come mid march, Samsung has not come to Barcelona empty handed. Just 2 days before the start of the Mobile World Congress, 2013 at Barcelona, Samsung gave a glimpse of its new device, the Galaxy Note 8.0 today, a 8.0″ tablet to compete with Apple iPad mini. At last years mobile world congress, Samsung released its 10.1″ tablet.

Besides the new hardware, Note 8.1 also features some new stuff on the software end. For Ex, the Air View feature, which can initiate previews by hovering the S Pen over the screen without touching it is now extended to some third party apps like Flipboard News Reader to expand a news without touching it. The major benefit of the Air View is seen as reducing the number of accidental clicks which has always been an annoying thing for touch screen users. In addition, this feature also works with folders, emails, gallary etc. Other software features of the device include an improved Chat On messenger, a reading mode which modifies the screen brightness for reading, a remote control feature (called the TV discovery app) etc.
As per the sources, the phone feature of the Galaxy Note 8.0 will be disabled in The US, for both WiFi and 3G/LTE versions. One of the reason behind this move is to help retain the share market of smart phone sales in the country. The calling feature, however, will be available in other parts of the world.
