American Express eZeClick Payment

Online shopping using credit card is not a new thing at all. However, with growing pace and increasing number of online transactions, there is a need to revolutionize the entire online payment process varying from entering details to SMS alerts. American Express has taken a step in that direction by introducing “eZe Click”. Basically, eZe click has been launched to remove the burden of entering credit card and personal details while authorizing a transaction. The following describes my experience:

  1. I went to vodafone.in for a recharge.
  2. On payment options, clicked on “eZe Click by American Express”.
  3. It asks for options viz. “Enter Id” or “Create One”
  4. Clicked on “Create One” and it took me to a registration screen where i punched in my credit card(used for transaction) and personal details(address, pin code,etc.).
  5. Registration complete and ID generated.
  6. Next time when i go for an online transaction, i will just enter by eZe click ID and go ahead with the transaction.
  7. No fuss about entering 5-7 fields including address, pin code ,etc.

It saves a lot of time and typo effort during the transaction. Also, you don’t need to refer to your card every time you do an online transaction as those details were already entered while registration of eZe click ID.

You can also visit https://www.americanexpress.com/india/ for more details and registration link.

LPG Cylinder Application Process In Delhi

Recently, one of my friends got a LPG connection from Bharat Gas in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi.

This document describe application process as per his experience.

  1. Go to http://www.ebharatgas.com/pages/index.html
  2. Fill in the registration form for “Register a New Domestic LPG Connection”.
  3. This form will serve as KYC form and application request form.
  4. It will ask all personal details of candidate.
  5. One successful completion, you will get a “wait list id”.
  6. Take a print out of the form along with the “Wait_List_Id”.
  7. Attach the following documents with your application:
    • ID proof: PAN Card/DL, etc.
    • Address Proof: Passport/DL/Rent agreement, etc.
  8. Note: Please ensure that the proofs do not have conflicting details Eg. If you are submitting DL as ID proof and Rent Agreement as address proof; they must have the same address and name details. The best combination would be to submit PAN Card as ID proof and any other listed document as address proof.
  9. Now visit nearest Bharat Gas Agency. You can locate it online on the above mentioned web site as well
  10. Submit application along with documents proof. Please carry original documents. Besides this, carry some other ID/Residence proofs as well. It’s always better to have it handy when you’re visiting a government office.
  11. The officer in charge will accept file and return a receiving receipt.
  12. Collect it and inquire about status and request completion date. To this, the officer may answer that you’ll receive an Email or SMS alert. However, that was not true in our case. You should pro-actively check in 20-30 days for the status of your request.
  13. Upon checking, if he says that request has been processed, deposit Cash. Note: We experienced a gray area here. Bharat Gas executive told that buying stove was mandatory. However, logically that should not be the case as someone might be re-locating and already has a stove. My friend didn’t argue much on this though.
  14. Cash amount will include Stove, Regulator, connector Pipe, and Security Deposit.
  15. Officer will provide you with a Consumer Id.
  16. Collect that receipt.
  17. Cylinder will be delivered in next 1-2 days.
  18. The delivery person will do the setup (if required).
  19. Collect bill of amount paid in step 12.
  20. You’re done. Note: Please remain patient during the entire process and I am sure I don’t need to provide an explanation for this.

For Ex, the Air View feature, which can initiate previews by hovering the S Pen over the screen without touching it is now extended to some third party apps like Flipboard News Reader to expand a news without touching it. The major benefit of the Air View is seen as reducing the number of accidental clicks which has always been an annoying thing for touch screen users. In addition, this feature also works with folders, emails, gallary etc. Other software features of the device include an improved Chat On messenger, a reading mode which modifies the screen brightness for reading, a remote control feature (called the TV discovery app) etc.

As per the sources, the phone feature of the Galaxy Note 8.0 will be disabled in The US, for both WiFi and 3G/LTE versions. Google Chromebook Pixel Full Specs, Features & Review

Google has added a new device in its fleet of Chromebook lineup – this one called the Chromebook Pixel. The launch was done on Thursday at San Francisco. It measures 297.7 x 224.6 x 16.2 mm and weighs 3.35 pounds. The device is priced at $1,299 which is surprisingly higher than the existing Chromebooks in the market, probably more than the combined cost of them all 🙂

Chrombook pixel is aimed for the power users who totally rely on the cloud and webapps and is an attempt by Google to enter the mainstream laptop market currently dominated by rivals Apple and Microsoft.

The main highlight of the device is its screen sized 12.85″ which offers a pixel density of 239 pixels-per-inch compared to 220 pixels-per-inch on the latest Macbook Pro with Retina display. This is by far the highest pixel density of any existing laptops in the market. It has a tough Gorilla® Glass 2 for protecting the device even under extreme conditions. The device has an aspect ratio of 3:2. According to Sundar Pichai, VP, Google, the reason for choosing this unusual aspect ratio is because Google feels that the web still focuses on horizontally displayed content which is viewed better on a 3:2 screen than a typical 16:10 screen.

When compared to Apple devices in the same category, Apple has its MacBook Air available at $1,199 which provides a 13″ display and storage capacity of 128 GB but does not offer High resolution screen and touch features.

The basic 32 GB WiFi only version of the device is now available on Google play at $1299 in US. The 64 GB version which will work on both WiFi and 4G LTE  cellular will ship in April at $1,499. Thats the price of the cheapest MacBook Pro available in the market. Google says it only earns a very small profit from every Chromebook. But, the company aims to earn more money from the online traffic delivered from these machines. Like every Chromebook, Pixel also comes ready to use all Google services like Search, Mail, Youtube and others.

Java Memory Usage Monitoring Without Profiling Tools

Over the years, I have been involved in some projects involving web development in J2ee. JAVA memory usage is an issue that’s common among all.

Following are some of the questions that come across to a developer regarding the JAVA memory:

  1. Memory Usage Statistics.
  2. Trending of Memory statistics.
  3. Memory Leak.
  4. Performance optimization in case memory leaks occur.

When it comes to answering the above, the most common suggestion is to enable heap dumps and analyze it using a heap analyzer tool. However, there are times and projects where these options are not approved off and developer is always asked to review code again and again. This is again a frustrating option for all and specially for someone who has just joined a maintenance project and reading through code is not a feasible option. It has happened to me and I did the following to solve some of my problems and eventually all.

Instead of analyzing heap dumps, I decided to do the following:

  1. Add a request filter to my J2EE application. This is a standard approach where in you can define a filter for your application by configuring it in web.xml. You can do a internet search for details on this.
  2. Add following log statements in the filter:
    1.  URL fired.
    2. Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory()
    3. Runtime.getRuntime().totalMemory()
    4. Runtime.getRuntime().maxMemory()
  3. Gather data from daily app usage and build some trending statistics.

Not only were we able to decide an optimum memory setting for our server, we were able to detect leaks as well. However, I agree detecting leaks wasn’t as simple as it’s with other tools considering the debugging effort that’s involved. It is not a conventional approach but comes in handy when projects don’t want to involve costs and maintain equilibrium at production systems as well.

Buying Guide : Microwave Oven

This is our first post on “Buying Guide” and we’ll focus to the point without doing any build up about the product. Here we go.

Needless to say that Microwave Oven is a necessity for every kitchen. Here we are describing some basics for short listing a microwave oven for your home.

Following considerations should be made for purchasing a microwave:

1. Type of Usage

Heating Is your microwave used primary to heat cooked food?
Convection Are you baking stuff frequently?
Grill Grilling meat or other items?

2. Frequency of Usage: For the Point#1 explained above, just assign a no. which indicates the frequency of usage of each scenario. Eg. Heating: 25/day, Convection: 1/day, Grill: 1/day.

3. The above two steps will help you filter out products at a first level i.e. Heating/Convection/Grill. Though I would like to highlight that the cost difference between these will not be much. Eg. A microwave for heating costs around Rs. 8000, Heating + Convection costs around Rs.10000 and Heat + Convection + Grill will be around Rs. 12000.

4. Next step you want to look for is the cavity inside. This is an endless discussion but my experience with stainless steel has been much better than the painted cavity. There is no such heating issue (hand burning) with stainless steel as well.

5. Decide capacity of microwave that you’re looking for.

6. Now decide on some less critical but important factors like:

  • User panel i.e. Touch or Button panel.
  • Ease of use.
  • Power Consumption.
  • Noise.

7. Company: Consider the following factors here:

  • Reputation: Since all companies are producing almost all products; a study on which one good in home appliances production should be done.
  • After Sales Service: This is a big consideration in buying any electronic and another topic of endless discussion. I have been content with LG service in Delhi. However, microwave repair work can be easily done in local market as well.

8. Extended Warranty: These options are very cheap for microwave. I opted for a 4 year LG AMC contract for Rs. 2000 only.
